It's an exciting day in the art room...the new iPads arrived!!
Fourth grade artists are learning about the art form of architecture. Specifically, they are observing and discussing Painted Lady houses and the possible reasons why these houses are given this specific title. After discussing this type of architecture, students started creating an artwork depicting their own version of a painted lady house. They could choose from three possible projects, a painting, mixed media collage, or tissue paper collage. In each artwork they had to show me what they know about the type of architecture and their use of art elements. What a fun way for the students to problem solve and practice creativity at the same time! The students are enjoying having a choice when it comes to what art project to complete! Fourth grade artists have been busy working on their first art project. We observed and discussed the art form of Illuminated letters. Fourth graders learned that Illuminated letters were a historically significant art form, and the artists who created them were considered highly important for their skills. After learning about the illuminated letters, fourth graders had a chance to create their own illuminated letter. In their artwork, they explored different elements of art, made media choices, and practiced self assessment as a way to improve their own work.
